(Stats from Facebook)
On 12/17/12 Facebook released updates to Nearby. As before, you can use Nearby search to see which friends have checked-in at local businesses. But now you can also discover places near your location based on your friends’ recommendations. You can explore by category, rate the places via a five-star system, and share recommendations with your friends.
When a mobile user searches for a local business category, the results they see in Nearby are based on their friends’ recommendations, ratings, check-ins, and likes. If your business has a physical location it is important to encourage engagement on your page. Sometimes this can be as simple as asking. Ask your fans to like, check-in, rate, and recommend your business. Also, make sure all information on the about section of your page is correct. Double check that your category is labeled correctly, this will allow your business to appear when people are searching for a specific type of business. Include all business information on the about page as well, including your address, website, phone number, business hours, and any additional information that you believe would benefit a mobile user searching in your area.
