Ballerina as the Ideal Athlete
Don’t be tempted to think that ballet isn’t a sport. It may be more refined than say, football, but one view of Under Armour’s new ad will convince you that ballet is as grueling and time intensive as any “traditional” sport. The mega athletic brand took a decidedly new route with their advertising recently when they featured an American ballerina, Misty Copeland, displaying her athleticism and agility while motivating young athletes who have been told they aren’t good enough. The spot is the first in a series of ads that feature female athletes mastering their respective sports (skier Lindsey Vohn, soccer player Kelley O’Hara, and tennis player Sloane Stephens also have spots). The spot is both beautiful and inspiring and speaks to athletes across the board – whether you are wearing a tutu or football pads.
